The medial pectoral nerve (C7 to T1) arises from the brachial plexus and pierces the pectoralis minor muscle; it supplies both the pectoralis minor muscle and the overlying pectoralis major muscle. The lateral pectoral nerve (C5, C7) runs medially from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus and innervates the pectoralis major muscle.
The medial pectoral nerve (medial anterior thoracic) arises from the medial cord of the plexus and through it from the eighth cervical and first thoracic.. It passes behind the first part of the axillary artery, curves forward between the axillary artery and vein, and unites in front of the artery with a filament from the lateral nerve.. It then enters the deep surface of the Pectoralis minor

Anatomic variation of the spinal origins of lateral and medial pectoral nerves. Clin Anat.
The lateral pectoral nerves showed a constant course, parallel to the thoraco‐acromial vessels. They coursed for 55 ± 7 mm inferomedially on the deep surface of pectoralis major, under its fascia. The medial pectoral nerves showed two main patterns of branching, which correlated with the extent of the costal attachments of the pectoralis minor muscles.

lat·er·al pec·to·ral nerve (lat'ĕr-ăl pek'tŏr-ăl nĕrv) [TA] A nerve that arises from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus usually passing medial to pectoralis minor to supply the sternoclavicular head of pectoralis major. Synonym (s): lateral anterior thoracic nerve, nervus pectoralis lateralis. The lateral pectoral nerve primarily supplies the pectoralis major muscle. Due to a communicating branch to the medial pectoral nerve some lateral pectoral nerve fibers pass to and innervate the pectoralis minor. The lateral pectoral nerve also carries nociceptive and proprioceptive fibers. Both the lateral and medial pectoral nerves, nerves that are branches of the brachial plexus, provide motor innervation to the PM muscle.

The lateral pectoral nerve (C5, C7) runs medially from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus and innervates the pectoralis major muscle. The medial pectoral nerve (MPN) usually arises from the medial cord (49.3%), anterior division of the lower trunk (43.8%), or lower trunk (4.7%). The medial and lateral pectoral nerves form a connection, or loop, around the axillary artery, called the ansa pectoralis.

The purpose of this study was to identify the spinal origins of lateral and medial pectoral nerves and to evaluate the participating amounts of each spinal nerve composing both pectoral nerves. In the current case, the medial pectoral nerve arose directly from the middle trunk of the brachial plexus and the lateral pectoral nerve arose from the anterior division of the upper trunk of the brachial plexus. The most medial branch of the medial pectoral nerve directed to the pectoralis major muscle emerged from pectoralis minor at the third intercostal space in the midclavicular line, a mean of 10.3 cm lateral to the margin of the sternum. • Sternocostal Head: C6, C7, C8, T1 → anterior pectoral nerve → medial pectoral nerve → sternocostal head of pectoralis major branch. Note that pectoralis major heads could be cross innervated by the lateral and medial pectoral nerve, hence the variation and range of root origins for these nerves. The medial pectoral nerve pierces both the pectoralis minor and the sternocostal head of the pectoralis major.
